Formula

(likes + comments + shares + saves) / number of followers × 100

How do you read the result?

The calculator adds up likes, comments, shares and saves, divides by your follower count and sets that against the benchmark for your industry and platform (the red marker in the bar). If you are above it, your content resonates — look at which posts caused that and make more of them. If you are below it, don't panic straight away: first calculate the average of your last five posts instead of one outlier, because a single weak post says little. Also know that smaller accounts reach relatively higher percentages: 5% at 500 followers is normal, 5% at 50,000 is exceptional. Finally, pay extra attention to comments and saves — the algorithms weigh those more heavily than a fleeting like.

From a number to better posts

A percentage is only useful once you do something with it. In our blog article on measuring social media success without drowning in data you can read which three numbers you really need to follow as a small business. Then use the posting frequency checker from our free social media tools to check whether your rhythm is right. And if you want the quality of your posts to go up by itself: let Buddy write and design your posts automatically — consistently good content is the shortest route to more engagement.
